The older Marlins that were not factory drilled on top of receiver never needed a spur unless the owner had them drilled and scoped them. The '54-'56 Marlin 39A's side drilled and sold through Sears stores had 3/4" scopes and had room to cock them with out a hammer spur. I've seen 39a's and 1891, 92 Marlins with halves put together, and the fit is usually horrendous ...
